Departure time, destination station or car sequence - this important information can be found on every platform, bright blue and clearly visible. These display boards, which are manufactured by the Italian company GDS in Romania and stored in Italy, are an important part of modern railroad stations and are replaced by DB InfraGO from time to time. But how do the display boards get from Italy to Germany? Quite simply: with DB Cargo FLS! The challenge: the display boards and especially the displays are very sensitive and have to be packaged appropriately for transportation.

Perfect coordination for a smooth process

A truck concept proved to be the ideal transport solution for flexibly handling the varying quantities and reaching the plants directly, even without a rail connection. The logistics experts at DB Cargo FLS in Italy and Germany therefore developed an alternative solution by road for the customer. Individually packed in special crates, the display boards are delivered by truck to the FLS Multimodal Logistics Centers in Hamburg, Regensburg and the DB HUB in Darmstadt for intermediate storage. The display boards can remain in the 3 HUBs for between a few days and several months. So far, 26 transports with a total of 135 pallets have been successfully completed to initially equip 1,000 stations in Germany with the new boards.

A decisive factor for the success of the project is the precise planning of the supply chains. The boards can remain in the storage centers for several months before they are ready for installation. DB InfraGO retrieves them as required - often even by serial number or MAC (Machine Access Code) number. With specially equipped trucks and close coordination by the FLS team in Leipzig, the boards are finally delivered to the destination stations on time.

A successful project with a future

The innovative logistics solution from DB Cargo FLS, in cooperation with colleagues from Germany and Italy as well as DB Cargo headquarters, has proven its worth. The concept, which enables flexible delivery and careful storage, has impressed the station operators. The display boards are a visible step forward that significantly increases traveling comfort.

There are already plans to equip more stations with the new display boards.
