Booking empty wagons, viewing orders and status information and tracking rail shipments – with link2rail’s e-services, DB Cargo is helping customers digitalise their logistics processes. In July, another digital product came online: Geofence Control. Designed to be used with a freight wagon fleet equipped with GPS and telematics, the new function provides an overview of all wagons on the user's site and displays information such as wagon numbers, order data and idle times.
Using geofencing to efficiently plan loading times
Geofence Control can speed up wagon turnaround cycles, particularly for companies with complex loading and unloading processes. Working off a customised set of timings, a traffic light system provides early warnings to avert delays. Additionally, the system allows loading units and factory railways to be managed more effectively and wagons to be marked as available more quickly, all of which brings greater transparency and efficiency to logistics processes.
