A locomotive to crown it all

DB Cargo UK presents a locomotive in honour of King Charles III.

A locomotive redesigned in royal blue livery is DB Cargo UK's coronation tribute to King Charles III. To commemorate the coronation, the new design was officially launched on 17 June at the company's annual employee event at Toton TMD, a large traction maintenance depot in Nottinghamshire. Depot Manager Matt Manson unveiled the new design in front of more than 800 employees and guests from the rail enthusiast community.

Close ties to the monarchy

In addition to the royal colour, the locomotive is emblazoned with a Union Jack and the official coronation logo bearing emblems of the UK nations: a rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock. The locomotive was repainted in Toton TMD's in-house paint shop. "DB Cargo UK has a long and proud relationship with the Royal Family, holding the Royal Charter for the maintenance and operation of the Royal Train. It seemed fitting to mark His Majesty the King’s coronation with a colourful tribute of our own," said CEO Andrea Rossi. "It is a striking addition to our fleet of liveried locomotives and I’m sure will be a source of pleasure for the rail enthusiast community," Rossi said.
