Article: Innovative container transfer system revolutionises rail freight transport in Denmark

Efficient, crane-free container handling saves CO₂ and facilitates rail access

In a ground-breaking development for the Danish logistics sector, Safe Green Logistics A/S has introduced an innovative container transfer system (CTS) that enables the seamless and fast transfer of ISO containers between rail and truck, directly from the cab of the truck to the rail. The system transfers containers autonomously from the truck to the freight wagon without the need for a crane.

This simple, fast, and innovative technological method is an ideal addition to the DB Cargo network in Denmark.

The first commercial freight wagons were dispatched from Aalborg to the DB Cargo terminal in Høje Taastrup near Copenhagen. With a rail-travelling distance of approximately 400 km, CO2 emissions were reduced by 1.5 tonnes compared to truck transport.

This milestone illustrates the system's potential to facilitate easy access to rail, also in atypical locations whilst driving the green transition.

Safe Green Logistics and DB Cargo FLS have achieved a successful cooperation through outstanding teamwork and great commitment.

The future promises further transport operations that will strengthen our Danish network in the long term.
